In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, monks will spend weeks creating intricate designs using colored sand. The work is grand in both scale and beauty, but when finished, they set about destroying it. This practice is a reminder of the impermanence of all things. So when folks tell us that they could never burn this candle, we simply say, "Don't be attached, burn the Buddha."
