Fall Equinox Candle Rituals and Reflections
Share
We don't know about you, but fall came fast this year! On our end, it might be because we had a bit of a rough summer here on the Western Slope of Colorado. The Gold Mountain Fire consumed some of our most beautiful and sacred wilderness. Then the scorched land slid out in devastating mud slides as soon as the sweet rain came. We stand in awe of the power — and wrath — of Mother Nature. May we be able to hear what she is so clearly saying when it comes to the devastating impacts of climate change, not just in our little mountain towns, but the world over.
And so there is an element of grief weighing our steps as we approach the fall equinox, release these long summer days and embrace the dark, reflective season ahead. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial to craft and carry light. Of course for us that includes the sweetness of pure beeswax candles, but especially the enlightened rituals and opportunities for connection they create.
Candlelit Mornings
This time of year, we like to start the day with candlelight. This is an especially nourishing routine if you’re an early riser whose mornings are about to get pretty dark!
Lately we’ve been enjoying a pure beeswax tea light in refillable glass holder situation. One little tea light a day, a couple hours in the morning, a couple hours at night. It’s a small, meditative way to bring good, grounding glow to your dawns and dusks.
Cozy Candlelight
If you have more time, then larger glassware and wider pillars really bring the cozy and that glorious raw beeswax scent over a long evening.
We’re especially fond of our 3-wick pure beeswax candle in blown glass – there’s just something so special about the way that handmade vessel filters the light. Like our tiny glass tea light cups, this much bigger statement glass is also refillable. An object metaphor we like to embrace this time of year!
Candlelit Community
Another way to cultivate autumnal joy is to create opportunities for connection and community. It’s a perfect time of year to host dinner parties, especially lower-lift potlucks where everyone gets to contribute. Getting together doesn’t have to be fancy, expensive or laborious. Lighting a few pure beeswax tapers is a simple way to make any gathering feel like an occasion.
And you don’t even have to wait for an occasion! Candlelight is fantastically powerful for focusing attention and drawing a crowd. Light a few tapers on a weeknight and watch the family flock to the table, or transform a solo dinner into a moment of self-care and renewal. Either way, candlelight reminds us that honoring everyday rituals is the foundation of contentment.
Wishing you a peaceful and present autumn, hive!
