Aromática Candle Refill How To
Now available: spiffy, compostable, DIY candle refill kits in all your favorite Aromática scents!
These kits are simple, fun, affordable and ultra eco-friendly. Here's a quick how to video:
These kits contain everything you need to make one large Aromática candle, or two small Aromática candles.
How to Make Your Refill Candle:
- Open kit and remove wicks and wick centering device.
- Pop the pouch in a microwave-safe bowl and give it a zap for ~90 seconds (bag open to let steam out). Continue in increments of 30 seconds until wax is fully molten.
- If not using microwave, submerge bag in boiling water for ~5 minutes.
- Stick your wick clip to the CENTER of your clean, dry, empty candle container (off-center wicks = flame too close to the glass = scary glass breaks).
- Thread the wick through the hole in the wooden centering device to keep it in the middle while you pour.
- Carefully pour molten wax into container. Stop about 1/4" from the rim.
- Let cool two hours.
- Trim wick to 1/4" and light. As always, burn until the melted wax reaches the container wall before extinguishing.
- Enjoy your non-toxic, eco(nomically)-friendly new Aromática candle!
Hot Tips
- Use this kit to fill a clean, dry, fully-empty, heat-proof candle holder — ideally our Aromática glass, but any holder around 3 inches wide should do alright.
- The kit has enough wax to make a single large Aromática candle, or two small ones (you can pour both at once or let the unused wax cool and save for later).
-
Aromática glassware can be cleaned with hot, soapy water. Glassware with beeswax in it can be cleaned by filing it with boiling water and allowing the molten wax to rise to the surface and cool before removal.
- One candle = one wick. The wicks we sent you are designed to make single-wick candles. If you double up it'll get very hot in there and could break your holder.
- Having trouble removing an old wick clip (metal thing stuck to bottom of used candle holder)? These should pop right out with the help of a butter knife, but if you've got one that's really glued on there, a little rubbing alcohol will set it free (for recycling).
- Pouring candles is fragrant work! When all the wax is melted, the scent really gets around. Don't stick your face directly in the bag after melting — it's very hot and the scent will be hyper-concentrated, no fun!
- These bags are truly compostable, which means they might look a little weathered coming out of the microwave or boiling water — it's just part of their process.
