Candle Alchemy: Pure Beeswax & Essential Oils
Share
30 million flowers… that's how many blossoms bees need to visit to produce a single pound of beeswax, according to the British Bee Keepers Association. On a single flight, a bee visits hundreds of flowers, selecting them for their color, the patterns on their petals, the strength of their aroma and even electrical currents in the air that tell the bee if a flower has already been visited. When they return home to the hive, bees communicate this wisdom to their fellows through elaborate dances.
Needless to say — bees have a pretty magical relationship with blossoms and that alchemy is at the very core of what we do as beeswax candle makers. Though the smell of high-quality beeswax is iconic, no two batches of pure, raw beeswax smell exactly the same. That intoxicating scent is a unique reflection of exactly what was blooming in a particular place at a particular moment.
When it came time to scent our beeswax candles, we knew we had to stay true to the blossoms that make beeswax possible in the first place. That's why we only use pure essential oils. The subtle, evocative fragrances that result from these blends carry the thrum and energy of a busy wildflower field on a warm summer day.
In a culture of increasing alienation from the natural world — from overpowering chemical fragrances, to potent flavor powders on foods cooked up in a lab — we think there's something to be said for a little olfactory purity, a little sweet simplicity. Go ahead: light one of our Aromatherapy Beeswax candles and give yourself a few moments just to breathe, just to notice what you smell and how it makes you feel.
